Historical Workings Model
Project Overview
This historic stibnite mine, once Canada's largest antimony producer, is located in central Nova Scotia.
Scope of Work
In 2023, RGS conducted a comprehensive opportunities and risks assessment for this project. A key component of this assessment was the creation of a detailed 3D model of the historical underground workings, utilizing historical plans and cross-sections.
Key Achievements
De-risked Exploration Drilling: The accurate 3D model significantly reduces the risk of drilling into old, unproductive mine workings. By avoiding these areas, the client can optimize drilling efforts and minimize costly setbacks.
Enhanced Geological Understanding: The analysis of historical mining data, particularly the location of stopes, provides valuable insights into the geological controls on mineralization. This knowledge aids in identifying high-potential zones and optimizing future exploration drilling programs.
By providing a clear understanding of the project's historical mining activities and geological context, RGS has empowered the client to make informed decisions and maximize the potential of this historic mining site.
